Janek Kaliczak earned a BA, studied Civil Engineering and was an Associate Professor at University of Southern California (USC). He was a big part of research and development, as a Founder and Vice President, of Emerging Technology's LLC, Mark Allen Lanoue and Janek pioneered the first earth bound applications of hyperspectral technology. Crop management, done by ITD, was one of thre first to identify pests and mould on agricultural products. Delving into all aspects of hyperspectral/optical technology for over 20 years, Janek has proposed, invented and developed hyperspectral applications in the Food Safety, Medical, micro optical technology, and unwanted residue identification at venues and many more. In addition, optical UAV stabalization is also his suit. Inventor, researcher, organizer and leader all fall to him. He designed a unique sensor based, optical imaging system, for long distances, using a field sensor filter to reduce the amount of traffic sent back to C3. Worked on team that produced first commercial Digital Camera using JPEG compression technology, and first commercial MJPEG system. Instrumental in the development, contributed feature sets, to the first hardware JPEG compression chip. Documented and developed first feature set for original MPEG-1 chip. Designed, specified features for first consumer high-resolution digital camera, crafted MPEG ATM transmission systems for broadband users and Telco’s simultaneous encoding of MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and WMV.
Strategized IPTV, ATM, real-time AAL5 multi-channel video transmission system GUI, control logic, and design directives for low level driver and higher level JAVA control. Architect of system and chip level design of JPEG, M-JPEG and MPEG 1,2,4, 7 products. He conceived an advanced DVD studio encoding system. Interfaced with Dolby to design and produce first Dolby AC3 broadcast audio encoding system and led the development team that built first triple-scan system for absolute scene and film detection and advanced DVD studio encoding and the GUI for main control system.

 

As President and Founder of Micrographic Images Corp. (Megagraphics), his company became the first Apple Macintosh hardware VAR. Designed plans and built prototypes of the first high resolution graphics system for a personal computer and completed design of first practical IM and mail system using Appletalk and beginning of the WWW. Developed, designed hardware and software for first 21-inch monitor for Macintosh. Conceived first flat screen Macintosh used by the Department of Defense for the FMC Bradley tank.

 

At the Universal Studios Tour/MCA, as a Special Effects Design Consultant, he designed special effects for: King Kong, Galactica (the first attraction to use high powered laser system in an enclosed theatrical event) Special Effects Sound Stage, Castle Dracula and other major venues. http://www.hyperspectralimagingfoundation.org/
